i am such an asshole

oh man, you guys...i'm so sorry about the portfolio assignment....i thought it posted when i posted your narrative assignment....i totally appologize because i intended for you to have plenty of time to work while i was gone and you had studio days....

so here's the assignment
10 images on a topic of your choosing

the breakdown can be 5 from previous assignments (1 you don't have to rework, 4 should be reworked based on crit) and 5 new..OR OR OR you totally can do all new images or a combo that results in many more than 10.....

they need to at least have a theme in common (types of images) or they can be their own narrative....whatever works for what you are thinking of

THINK about presentation...have intent in the order and such...AND Think about scale and numbers of images 1st...

then if you have time to worry about gussying up your portfolio by mounting or whatever, do so...but the gussying isn't required...you are allowed to create a book or do some sort of creative presentation (including projecting them in some way) AS LONG as it makes sense and is part of the concept....

so
DUE AT CRIT
10 or more images with at least 5 new ones
contact sheest for any new shots
assesment sheet
a cd of your final

AND PLEASE let me know if there are time conflicts at finals! i need to know sooner rather than later

thanks thanks....and let me know what i can do to help you

also...any late homework, extra credit or potential redos not to be submitted with the portfolio are due on weds!

filters assignment due april 9

this assignment is about learning what filters in photoshop can do and also working with creating layers.
follow these steps to complete this assignment....it is due weds april 9th

i would recommend watching the tutorials filters explained and filters gallery on UACBT before completing this assignment

1. choose one color photo from any of your contact sheets for this class
2. open that image in photoshop and using image>image size, change the resolution to 72 and make it around 2 inches x 2 inches in height and then color correct it.
3. create a new document in photoshop that is 8.5x11 with a resolution of 72 (file>new)
4. make sure you are on the move tool (top of your tool bar) and click on your small picture and drag it into your new document in the top letf hand corner. note that this will have created a new layer in photoshop (if your layers pallate isn't up, open it through window>layers)
5. make sure that the layer you just created is active (it should be blue), then run a filter on that image
6. click on the text tool (the big t in the tool bar) and directly beneath the photo, type the name of the filter. again you will notice that photoshop has created a new layer.
7. repeat these steps until you have run all the filters in photoshop...essentially you are creating a set of contact sheets for the filters
8. make sure that after every 3 or 4 images you add that you flatten your image (layer>flatten image) so that you don't wind up with 60 or 70 layers
9. print them out and turn them in to me...i WILL NOT accept emailed versions of this assignment

WEDS class (4/2)

so i managed to hurt my back on monday evening...and have been down for the count since....so we are not meeting for class tonite.....so i have a couple of activities for you to work on....these will be due on monday

first in terms of the reading material....this will be a hand in quiz......tell me what the main idea of chapter five is (in at least a paragraph) and then pick one artist in the chapter and explain his/her work and how it relates to the issues discussed in chapter 5. (about a typed page should be good for this assignment)

the second is that i want you to go on line and watch the UACBT tutorials on masking....take notes each tutorial and be prepared to hand those in on monday as well....i'll give them back at the end of class...i'm just checking that you did the assignment.

to find the tutorials, go to http://workshops.oscr.arizona.edu/ and scroll down to common resources.....you'll need to log in using your net id and password....once you've logged in, do a search for photoshop cs3, and click on the photoshop link (not the quick start, those are a different group).....then scroll down to Masks and watch all four and take notes.....then be sure and LOG OUT when you finish

i'm looking forward to seeing all of you on monday!
